The Halo RO Plus is our premium under-sink drinking water system. It does everything a standard reverse osmosis unit does (lead, chlorine, heavy metals, dissolved solids, bad taste, all gone), then adds three things you do not get on a standard RO: alkaline-boosted output, a smart faucet that tells you when filters need changing, and a built-in leak detector that shuts the system down if anything goes wrong under your sink. Tool-free, no electricity, fits under most kitchen sinks.

What makes the Halo RO Plus different

The base technology is reverse osmosis, the same gold-standard membrane process described on our standard RO page. The Halo RO Plus stacks four upgrades on top of that.

1. Alkalinity booster

Reverse osmosis water is very clean but slightly acidic (pH around 6 to 6.5). The Halo RO Plus runs the clean water through a final mineralization stage that adds back trace amounts of calcium and magnesium and brings the pH up to a mildly alkaline 7.5 to 8.5. Better taste, beneficial minerals back in the water, and easier on the stomach for people who notice acidic water.

2. Smart faucet with filter alerts

The dedicated faucet has built-in LEDs that change color as filter life expires. Green for full life. Yellow when you should plan a filter change. Red when it is time. No more guessing, no more calendar reminders.

3. Built-in leak detector

A water sensor sits under the unit. If a fitting drips, a hose develops a slow leak, or anything goes wrong in the cabinet, the sensor cuts the water supply to the system automatically. That single feature has saved more than one Pittsburgh kitchen from cabinet rot and floor damage.

4. Tool-free filter changes

Filter cartridges twist on and off without a wrench. A homeowner can swap them in five minutes. Wahl Club members can still let us do it as part of annual maintenance, but you no longer need a service call to change a filter.

When the Halo RO Plus is the right call

  • You want the best under-sink drinking water you can buy.
  • You like the idea of alkaline water in your daily glass, coffee, and cooking.
  • You want the cabinet to tell you when filters expire instead of guessing.
  • You are worried about leaks under the sink (older home, finished basement below, cabinet you cannot easily check).
  • Your home has a lead service line and you want a premium drinking-water solution while you plan a Whole Home Repipe.
  • You want the option to add a connection to your refrigerator water line.

What it does, what it does not

Does:

  • Removes lead (the primary use case in older Pittsburgh neighborhoods)
  • Removes chlorine and chloramines
  • Removes heavy metals (copper, mercury, arsenic)
  • Removes dissolved salts and minerals (and adds beneficial ones back)
  • Removes sediment
  • Removes bacteria, cysts, and many viruses
  • Reduces VOCs, pesticides, herbicides
  • Delivers alkaline drinking water with restored minerals
  • Alerts you to filter changes
  • Detects and stops leaks

Install day

A Halo RO Plus install takes about two hours. The Wahl plumber:

  1. Mounts the unit under your kitchen sink (compact, fits in most standard 30-inch and larger sink cabinets)
  2. Installs the smart faucet on the sink deck (or counter)
  3. Taps the cold water line for feed
  4. Connects to the drain
  5. Positions the leak sensor
  6. Optionally connects to your refrigerator water line for filtered ice and water
  7. Runs the initial flush cycle (about 30 minutes, fully automatic)
  8. Hands you the filter-change indicator guide

No electricity required. The system runs on your home’s water pressure. If incoming pressure is low, we will recommend a booster. See Grundfos SCALA2 Booster Pump.

Frequently asked questions

Why alkaline water?

Reverse osmosis water is very clean but slightly acidic. The alkalinity boost in the Halo RO Plus brings the pH up to a mild 7.5 to 8.5 range, restores trace minerals, and improves taste. Some people prefer it for cooking and coffee. Many find it easier on the stomach.

Does it really remove lead?

Yes. Reverse osmosis is one of the most reliable lead-removal methods on the market. We test before and after install to confirm.

How often do I change filters?

The smart faucet tells you. Pre and post filters typically last 6 to 12 months in Pittsburgh water. The membrane runs 3 to 5 years.

Can I do filter changes myself?

Yes. The cartridges are tool-free. Five minutes per filter. We will walk you through the first one at install. Wahl Club members can let us handle filter changes as part of annual maintenance.

What does the leak detector actually do?

A sensor sits under the unit. If it detects water, it triggers a shutoff valve that cuts the supply to the RO. The leak does not get worse. The damage stays small.

Will it work with my refrigerator?

Yes. We can connect the RO output to your fridge water line during install. Filtered ice and water from the fridge dispenser.

Does it need electricity?

No. The Halo RO Plus runs on water pressure. The smart faucet LEDs are powered by a small replaceable battery in the faucet.

How does it compare to a pitcher filter or a fridge filter?

No comparison. Pitcher and fridge filters are activated carbon, which handles chlorine and some taste issues but does not remove lead, dissolved solids, or most contaminants. The Halo RO Plus is in a different category.
