Nuvo is a salt-free water treatment system that uses citric acid chelation rather than a salt brine. It low-doses citric acid into the water, usually combined with carbon filtration, so hardness minerals cannot stick to your pipes, your fixtures, or your water heater. There are three ways to deal with hard water and people confuse them constantly. A softener removes the minerals using resin and a salt brine. A conditioner leaves the minerals in but changes them so they cannot stick or scale. Filtration removes contaminants. Nuvo is a conditioner, and the mechanism is chelation: the citric acid binds up the hardness minerals so they stay suspended and cannot deposit on the inside of your pipes or the element of your water heater.
