The short answer

Trane is a longstanding line for us. We buy from Trane directly, we install Trane and its Ameristar value line, and we maintain and repair Trane equipment across Pittsburgh regardless of who originally installed it. We are also straight with customers about where Trane fits best and where another line does the job better for the money, which is a conversation most contractors will not have with you.

Why we run this line.

I am not here to beat up on Trane. They have boasted for years about their efficiency and their spine fin coils, and they have earned a real reputation. What I tell customers is the truth about size, cost, and what a given machine is going to do in their house.David Wahl, CEO and master plumber

Trane built its reputation on durability and on its spine fin coil, and that reputation is largely deserved. Where we are candid is footprint. Trane’s 5 ton high-efficiency outdoor unit is physically very large, and a lot of homeowners do not want something that size beside the patio. For those customers we will show a smaller-footprint option next to it and let them decide with both prices on the sheet.

The Ameristar line, which is Trane’s value brand, is a legitimate answer when a homeowner needs a reliable system at the lowest defensible price, usually a rental property, a flip, or a fixed budget. We would rather put in an honest budget system correctly than sell a premium system the customer cannot afford and does not need.

And if you already own a Trane, we are not going to tell you to rip it out. We service it. A well-maintained Trane runs a long time.

What actually separates a Wahl install

Trane gas furnace, the line Wahl installs and services across Pittsburgh
A Trane gas furnace. We install this line, we stock the Ameristar value tier, and we service any Trane no matter who put it in.

The equipment we actually install.

What we do with Trane equipment.

Trane gas furnaces

Installation and full changeout, sized off a load calculation rather than matching the sticker on the old unit.

Trane air conditioners and heat pumps

Including the spine fin outdoor coil platform Trane is known for. We will tell you honestly where the efficiency premium pays back and where it does not.

Ameristar, the Trane value line

The budget tier when a reliable, straightforward system at the lowest sensible cost is the right call, such as a rental or an investment property.

Service and repair on any Trane

We diagnose, repair, and maintain Trane equipment we did not install, including 24 hour emergency service.

Trane maintenance

Seasonal maintenance that keeps the manufacturer warranty intact and catches the failures that strand people in January.

How we work with this line.

A direct Trane supply relationship

Trane is one of the suppliers we purchase from directly rather than only through a wholesaler, which means parts availability on Trane equipment is not a bottleneck for our service department.

Honest comparison, both prices shown

Every option sheet we hand you shows the standard price and the member price side by side, on every option, with no pressure toward the top of the ladder.

Sizing beats badging

We have said it on every page on this site and we will keep saying it. A premium furnace installed into undersized return ducting will lose to a mid-tier furnace installed correctly. We fix the ductwork problem rather than selling around it.

We service what other people installed

A large share of our service work is on equipment we did not sell. That is deliberate. It is how we meet the next generation of customers.

Why this matters in a Pittsburgh house.

A lot of Pittsburgh homes had a Trane put in fifteen or twenty years ago by a company that is no longer around, or no longer answers the phone at 9pm in January. Somebody has to keep those systems running, and has to be honest when one is finally at the end. That is a service we take seriously, whether the eventual replacement is a Trane or not.

Questions, answered.

Do you install Trane?

Yes. We install Trane and Ameristar, Trane’s value line, and we purchase from Trane directly. We will show you Trane alongside the other lines we carry with both prices on the sheet so you can compare honestly.

Will you service my existing Trane system?

Yes, regardless of who installed it. We diagnose, repair, and maintain Trane equipment, and we run 24 hour emergency service.

Is Trane better than the other brands you carry?

Trane has a real reputation for durability, and their spine fin coil is a genuine engineering point. Our honest position is that installation quality, correct sizing, and ductwork drive more of your comfort and your energy bill than the badge on the box does. We will give you our recommendation for your specific house and explain the reasoning.

What is Ameristar?

Ameristar is Trane’s value brand. It is the right answer when you need a reliable, straightforward system at the lowest defensible price, which most often comes up on rental and investment properties or a tight budget.

Why is the Trane high-efficiency unit so large?

The 5 ton high-efficiency outdoor unit has a big footprint, which is a real consideration if it is going next to a patio or in a small side yard. If space or appearance matters to you, tell us and we will show you a smaller-footprint option next to it.
