Who we are

Your neighbors across Greater Pittsburgh

John Wahl started this company in 1980 out of his mother's basement in Beechview, with her as his first employee. Three generations of the family have grown it since, and we are still a Pittsburgh family business, just a bigger one.

We serve homeowners and businesses from the South Hills to the North Hills and from the eastern suburbs to the west. Same family, same standard, whatever town the truck is parked in.

After 46 years in these basements, tell us the decade your house was built and we can usually tell you what we will find before we ring the doorbell. We may not have seen your exact house yet, but we have worked on one just like it:

  • Pre-1940 homes in Dormont or Squirrel Hill: knob and tube wiring, galvanized water lines, and terra-cotta sewer pipe are on our minds before we walk in
  • 1950s ranches: usually lime plaster, thin insulation, and high heat loss
  • 2000s builds out in the townships: tighter than anything before them, yet a surprising number came with a badly undersized air conditioner
  • The whole rundown is in four Pittsburgh houses, four eras, four problems we expect
  • None of it is a reason to panic, it is a reason to have someone who knows these houses look at yours
  • Browse the cities below to find your community, and if your town is not there, call 1-855-438-9245
Full service

Every service, one trusted team

We did not start out doing all of this, John did HVAC only for decades. We added plumbing first, partly because it balances out a seasonal heating and cooling business, and partly because handing our customers off to subcontractors never sat right with us.

Then the deep freeze of 2023 forced the rest. We ran over 900 emergency calls that winter, and six to nine months later some of those same customers still could not find anyone to repair the drywall, so we built the team ourselves.

The full story is in why we added plumbing, water, excavation, and remodeling to an HVAC company. Here is what one call to Wahl covers today, across our entire service area:

  • Heating: furnace, boiler, and heat pump repair, installation, and tune-ups built for Pittsburgh winters
  • Air conditioning: central AC and ductless mini split repair, replacement, and seasonal maintenance
  • Plumbing: drain cleaning, leak detection and repair, faucets and fixtures, water heaters, and water and gas line work
  • Sewer and excavation: camera inspections, sewer line repair, and full line replacements
  • Water treatment, indoor air quality, and bathroom remodeling round out the whole-home lineup
The Wahl difference

Why neighbors choose Wahl

We will be straight with you, the way we are on every job: we do not advertise to be the cheapest company in Pittsburgh. When doing a job the right way costs us a little more, that is exactly what we do, because we believe we deliver more value per dollar than any other home services company in this region.

Do not take our word for it. The honest version is in why we are not the cheapest, and why our customers come back anyway, and here is what backs it up:

  • About 60 percent of our business is maintenance-agreement customers who signed up to have us back in their homes multiple times a year
  • More than 1,500 five-star Google reviews and a 4.8 rating
  • An A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau
  • Flat-rate, upfront pricing with good, better, and best options, so you see the full price and pick the level that fits your home before any work begins
  • Licensed and insured, with a master plumber on staff
  • 24/7 emergency service, because furnaces and sewer lines do not check the clock before they fail
  • Rheem Pro Partner and Mitsubishi Diamond Elite dealer
  • Bosch is our exclusive cold-climate heat pump, the same system every owner in our company runs in their own home
Wahl Club

One membership, every system

Every home in our service area can join the Wahl Club, one membership that covers heating, cooling, and plumbing under the same roof.

The honest truth about making equipment last is not glamorous: change the filter, keep the outdoor unit clean, and have someone who knows what they are looking at go through the system on schedule. The tune-ups handle the part most homeowners skip.

That is the difference between staying ahead of a breakdown and reacting to one at the worst possible time. Wahl Club members get:

  • Seasonal tune-ups
  • Priority service when the schedule fills up
  • Member pricing on repairs
  • Learn more on our Wahl Club page, or ask about it the next time one of our technicians is at your home
