Weil-McLain has been the default boiler in this region for generations, which means their equipment is genuinely everywhere here. We have seen every generation of it. The CGa atmospheric gas boilers, the CGi cast iron sections, the WGO oil-fired gold series, steam boilers with the full trim package, and the current high-efficiency condensing line. We know which parts are still available, which control boards fail, and which twenty-year-old unit is worth repairing versus replacing.
The piece nobody talks about is near-boiler piping. A boiler is only as good as the piping immediately around it, and on steam it is not optional. Wrong header, wrong equalizer, wrong pitch on the returns, and you get water hammer, wet steam, uneven heat, and a system that eats itself. That is craft knowledge, not a spec sheet, and it is why we still train people on it.
We are also honest about the high-end. We have pushed further into high-efficiency condensing boilers, including bringing in IBC alongside Weil-McLain, because for the right home a modulating condensing boiler is a genuinely better machine. We will tell you which category your house belongs in.

CGa series atmospheric gas boilers
The standard hot water boiler for a large share of Pittsburgh homes, including the CGa-3 and CGa-5 with the PIDL control. Reliable, serviceable, and the right answer more often than the high-efficiency sales pitch admits.
CGi cast iron boilers
Cast iron sectional boilers built to last decades. Traditional, heavy, forgiving, and still the correct specification for plenty of older homes with existing gravity-converted piping.
Steam boilers
A genuine Pittsburgh specialty and a dying skill. We install steam boilers with the full trim package and, just as importantly, we pipe them correctly so they make dry steam instead of throwing water at your radiators.
High-efficiency condensing boilers
Sealed combustion, 95 percent and up, modulating burners. The right answer for a well-insulated home, a low-temperature emitter system, or a homeowner focused on fuel cost.
Combi boilers
Heat and domestic hot water from one wall-hung appliance. Popular in townhomes and smaller footprints where a separate boiler and tank will not fit.
WGO oil-fired boilers
The gold series oil boilers, for the homes out past the gas main that still run on oil.

Sized for light commercial, multi-unit residential, and small institutional buildings.

Six boiler types, not one
Steam, cast iron, standard hot water, condensing high-efficiency, combi, and oil. Each is a different diagnostic path and a different install discipline. A company that only does forced air and calls a boiler ‘the same thing with water’ will hurt you.
Near-boiler piping done right
On steam especially, the header, equalizer, and return pitch determine whether the system works. This is the single most common thing we find wrong on other companies’ installs.
We still repair, not just replace
A well-built cast iron boiler can run forty years. If yours has life left, we will tell you that and fix it, even though a replacement is a much bigger ticket for us.
Hydronics beyond the boiler
Radiant floor, hydronic baseboard, indirect water heaters off the boiler, zone valves and circulators, and the controls that tie it together. The boiler is one component in a system, and we work on the whole system.
Why this matters in a Pittsburgh house.
Pittsburgh’s housing stock is old and it was heated with water and steam long before it was heated with air. Squirrel Hill, Lawrenceville, Mt. Lebanon, the North Side, and half the boroughs are full of cast iron radiators and steam mains that have been running since before the war. Those systems are quiet, comfortable, and worth keeping. The threat to them is not age, it is a contractor who does not understand them recommending that they be torn out.

Do you still work on steam boilers?
Yes, and it is one of the things that separates us here. We install, repipe, and service steam systems, including the near-boiler piping that determines whether the system makes dry steam. Many companies in this market will not touch steam at all.
Should I replace my old cast iron boiler?
Not automatically. A well-built cast iron boiler can run for decades, and if yours has life left we will tell you so. The honest replacement triggers are a cracked section, a failed heat exchanger, chronic unavailable parts, or an efficiency and comfort case that actually pays back. We will show you the numbers rather than just the new boiler price.
Is a high-efficiency condensing boiler always better?
No. Condensing boilers reach their rated efficiency only when they run at low return water temperatures, which depends on your emitters. In a home with high-temperature cast iron radiators sized for 180 degree water, a condensing boiler may spend most of its life not condensing. We look at your actual system before recommending one.
Can a boiler make my hot water too?
Yes, two ways. A combi boiler makes heat and domestic hot water in one wall-hung unit, which is popular where space is tight. Or we install an indirect tank heated by the boiler, which usually gives better hot water performance for a family and lets each part be sized properly.
Do you install radiant floor heat?
Yes. Radiant floor is one of the most comfortable heating systems there is, and it pairs naturally with a condensing boiler because it runs at low water temperature. We do it as part of bathroom remodels and as whole-area systems.
