Level 2 Technical/Selling Technician (Residential) | $120K–$200K+

Pay: $120,000 – $200,000+ per year (performance-based)

 

We are a growing residential HVAC company hiring an experienced technician who can diagnose, communicate clearly with homeowners, and present solutions that get approved.

 

This role is ideal for technicians who are strong in the field and comfortable discussing options, pricing, and system upgrades with customers—not just completing the repair.

The HVAC Project Manager is a dedicated sales professional — a selling technician with deep technical expertise who focuses exclusively on evaluating customer needs, designing solutions, and closing replacement and installation projects. This role does not perform service calls. Instead, the Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for customers seeking system upgrades and replacements, delivering a consultative sales experience that builds trust and drives revenue.

Responsibilities

  1. Create a positive customer experience on every sales visit.
  2. Follow up on sales leads from technicians, marketing campaigns, and self-generated sources.
  3. Educate new and existing customers on HVAC system options and service offerings using the Company’s Sales System.
  4. Conduct comprehensive in-home comfort surveys, engineering analyses, and load calculations.
  5. Recommend right-sized solutions and present proposals that link customer needs to total value.
  6. Address customer objections, negotiate value, and close the sale.
  7. Effectively communicate technical expertise to build credibility and confidence with customers.
  8. Prepare and present accurate, professional proposals.
  9. Complete all paperwork accurately and on time for every lead.
  10. Prepare financing documentation and collect payments.
  11. Manage performance against scorecard metrics and revenue targets.
  12. Remain accessible by phone during business hours (excluding scheduled time off).
  13. Participate in all company-sponsored training programs.
  14. Maintain a courteous, professional demeanor with customers and team members at all times.
  15. Adhere to company uniform and image standards.
  16. Abide by all standards of performance, ethics, and safety policies.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

What This Role Is Not

This is a pure sales role. The HVAC Project Manager does not perform diagnostic service calls, maintenance visits, or hands-on installation work. All technical evaluations are performed in the context of assessing and proposing replacement or new installation projects.

Position Requirements

  1. Minimum of 3 years of HVAC sales experience, preferably in residential replacement or new construction.
  2. Technical HVAC background required — must be able to perform load calculations and engineering analysis.
  3. High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
  4. Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment, industry practices, and system design.
  5. Experience with service agreement sales and project estimating.
  6. Proven ability to build customer relationships and close consultative sales.
  7. Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  9. Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team environment.
  10. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record approved by company insurance carrier.

Physical Requirements

  1. Local travel to customer homes and job sites required.
  2. Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, and reach during in-home evaluations.
  3. Occasional lifting of 5–10 pounds.
  4. Ability to work under pressure and maintain professionalism in challenging customer interactions.
  5. Good visual acuity for close, distance, and peripheral tasks.
  6. Willingness to work extended hours, evenings, or weekends as needed.

Overview

Duties

  1. Install new HVAC systems including air conditioning units, furnaces, boilers, and ventilation equipment in residential properties
  2. Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and HVAC design plans to ensure precise installation
  3. Conduct system diagnostics using tools such as ohmmeters and refrigeration gauges to troubleshoot issues
  4. Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and equipment upgrades on existing HVAC units and appliances
  5. Collaborate with team members to ensure proper plumbing connections and integration with property systems
  6. Utilize welding skills for custom ductwork or component fabrication when necessary

Experience

  1. Proven experience as an installer within the HVAC industry with a focus on residential projects
  2. Strong mechanical knowledge of HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning / Refrigeration) systems including ammonia refrigeration and HVAC design principles
  3. Familiarity with construction processes, schematics reading, plumbing systems, and property maintenance practices
  4. Hands-on experience with equipment repair, appliance troubleshooting, boiler operation, and field service tasks
  5. Knowledge of refrigerants, refrigeration systems, and ammonia refrigeration safety protocols
  6. Ability to operate tools such as ohmmeters, welding equipment, and other mechanical repair instruments
  7. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience driving <PERSON> type vehicles preferred

What you’ll own

Accounts Receivable

  • Monitor aging reports and resolve payment discrepancies
  • Partner with customer service on past-due follow-ups and collections
  • Handle billing adjustments, credits, and write-offs
  • Work through invoice disputes and payment arrangements with customers
  • Track commitments and escalate delinquent accounts

Accounts Payable

  • Process vendor invoices with proper coding, on time
  • Match purchase orders against receiving reports and statements
  • Run scheduled payments and keep aging schedules current

Purchase Orders & Compliance

  • Audit POs against invoices and receiving documentation
  • Flag variances and exceptions fast
  • Keep complete PO files with proper approvals

General Accounting

  • Assist with monthly revenue recognition
  • Clear up billing questions with technicians and coordinators

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2+ years of hands-on accounting experience, ideally in a service, construction, or trade environment
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage, or Dynamics GP, plus Excel
  • Working knowledge of AR/AP, PO systems, and revenue recognition
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
  • Solid vendor and customer communication skills

Nice to have

  • Experience in HVAC, plumbing, mechanical services, or construction
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and the full purchase order lifecycle
  • Trade industry billing knowledge
  • Certified Bookkeeper credential or CPA in progress
