Walk me into a basement: what separates a Wahl install
Come down to the basement with me. Here is everything we do on an install that the other guy does not, all the way down to the disconnect handle.
A Wahl install starts with system design, a real load calculation paired with our historical knowledge of Pittsburgh homes, plus symptom and lifestyle questions to figure out how to make your home more comfortable, not just which box to install. From there our selling tech takes photos and video for the install team, we register your equipment for warranty, and we do custom ductwork, triple evacuation, digital-manifold charging, valve tagging, and a full commissioning report.
We have a philosophy here: if it looks good, it is good. The system has to run right and look right, because the small details prove everything else.
It starts before we pick the equipment
When you get an install done with Wahl, there are a lot of things we do differently than the competition, and most of them happen before a single piece of equipment shows up. We work with Rheem, Mitsubishi, Bosch, all the top brands, and we are not dogmatic about which one goes in. We pick the best system for your home. System design is a huge part of what we do, and we always use a load calculation along with our historical knowledge of Pittsburgh homes to design the right system for your house.
From there we go through a series of symptom and lifestyle questions, plus a happy-home analysis and an engineering analysis. The point is not just to find the best equipment. The point is to figure out how to improve the air quality, the comfort, and the experience of living in your home. That might mean a humidifier for asthma, allergies, static electricity, and dry skin. It might mean an indoor air quality product to cut down allergens, viruses, and bacteria. It might mean better filtration or smarter controls. We are solving for how you live, not just what fits in the basement.
How does the job get to the install team?
This is where the homework pays off. From the moment you choose your system, the selling technician takes video, photos, and the engineering analysis, and all of it goes to the install department. We order your equipment, and we register it for warranty so you are actually covered. The installers go through the install manager every morning, and they review the video of your home before they ever pull up, so they can grab miscellaneous materials and show up genuinely prepared.
What happens in the basement on install day?
Here is where you can see the standard, if you know what to look for.
- Custom ductwork, sized right. No company sizes ductwork like we do. We have gone through extensive out-of-state training to sharpen our duct design over the years, and we deliberately lower the velocity at the equipment so the system is quieter, moves air better, and filters better.
- Triple evacuation, every time. We pull a proper vacuum and shoot a video of the vacuum rise test so we know the refrigerant side is sealed. We do the A2L refrigerant leak detection sensors that are required and that a lot of people skip.
- Digital manifolds. We dial in the refrigeration with digital manifolds and a full startup process, not by feel.
- The disconnect handle. When we choose your electrical disconnect, we pick the ones with glass-fiber-reinforced nylon handles instead of the cheap ABS plastic. It is a tiny detail. Nobody would ever notice. But that level of care carries through everything we do.
- Viega ProPress and clean finishes. We use the best Viega ProPress fittings, correct tape and silicone sealing, and everything is left neat and tight.
- Valve tagging. We tag your valves so you actually know where your shutoff is when you need it.
How do you prove it actually works?
We do a full commissioning report every time we start up equipment. We are checking static pressure, making sure air leaks are sealed, and testing that the system actually runs the way it is supposed to for your home. Then we do a walk-through with you so you understand what you have. We install above manufacturer standards, so the system is not just going to function well for years, it is going to look good while it does it.
That last part is the philosophy that ties it all together. In our company, if it looks good, it is good. It cannot just function properly, it has to look good too, because the care you can see is proof of the care you cannot. If you want help choosing the equipment itself, start with how to pick a furnace, and here is more about our team.
The quick version
- Every install starts with a load calculation plus our historical knowledge of Pittsburgh homes, not a guess.
- We solve for comfort and air quality with symptom and lifestyle questions, not just which box to install.
- The selling tech sends photos and video to the install team, and we register your equipment for warranty.
- Custom ductwork, triple evacuation with a vacuum rise video, digital manifolds, valve tagging, and a full commissioning report.
- If it looks good, it is good. We even pick disconnects with glass-fiber-reinforced nylon handles instead of ABS plastic.
When we pick your electrical disconnect, we choose the one with the glass-fiber-reinforced nylon handle instead of the cheap ABS plastic. You will never notice it. That is the whole point.
We have a philosophy here: if it looks good, it is good. A system has to run right and look right, because the small details are proof of everything you cannot see.

What makes a Wahl install different from other companies?
It starts with real system design, a load calculation paired with our knowledge of Pittsburgh homes, and symptom and lifestyle questions to solve for comfort, not just equipment. On install day it shows up as custom ductwork, triple evacuation with a vacuum rise video, digital-manifold charging, valve tagging, and a full commissioning report. The small details, down to the disconnect handle, prove the rest.
Does Wahl do a load calculation before recommending equipment?
Yes. We always run a load calculation and combine it with our historical knowledge of Pittsburgh housing stock to design the right system for your specific home. We pick the best system for the house rather than defaulting to one brand or one size.
Does Wahl register my new equipment for warranty?
Yes. After you choose your system, we order it and register it for warranty purposes so you are actually covered. We provide some of the best warranties in the business, and registration is part of how we make sure that protection is real.
What is commissioning and does Wahl do it?
Commissioning is a thorough startup and verification process where we measure that the system actually performs correctly, including static pressure, sealed air leaks, and proper operation. We do a commissioning report every time we start up equipment, so the day you pay us the system is confirmed to be working right.
Why does Wahl take photos and video during the sales visit?
So the install team is genuinely prepared. The selling technician captures video, photos, and an engineering analysis that goes to the install department, and the installers review the video of your home each morning before arriving. That means they show up with the right materials and a real plan instead of figuring it out in your basement.
