iWave is the newest indoor air purification line we carry, new to Wahl for 2026 through our Calgon partnership. It is a no-bulb, no-replacement-cell air purifier that mounts inside your ductwork and uses bipolar ionization to clean air across your whole home. If REME HALO and iWave look similar at a distance, the key differences are simple: iWave is self-cleaning, has no replacement parts during its service life, and uses ion-cluster technology instead of UV-plus-PHI (photohydroionization).

For customers who want a low-maintenance purifier, who are sensitive to even trace ozone, or who want the newest available technology, iWave is a strong fit.

What iWave does

iWave produces equal amounts of positive and negative ions, which it releases into your duct airstream. Those ions attach to airborne particles and gases throughout your home and:

  • Cluster particulates together so they become large enough for your filter to catch. This is why iWave makes your existing filter more effective at the same MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating.
  • Neutralize pathogens. Bacteria, mold spores, and viruses are deactivated when their cell structure is disrupted by ion contact.
  • Break down VOCs (volatile organic compounds). The chemical odors from cleaning products, paint, new furniture, and air fresheners get reduced as ion clusters react with them.
  • Eliminate odors. Pet odors, cooking smells, smoke, and basement mustiness all get treated.

Why iWave for a Pittsburgh home

Three reasons iWave makes sense for certain Pittsburgh customers.

Self-cleaning, no bulb replacement. iWave includes an automatic cleaning cycle that fires periodically to keep the ion generator clean. There is no replacement bulb or cell during the life of the unit. If you want set-and-forget, iWave is the right call.

Zero ozone production. Unlike UV-based purifiers that produce a trace amount of ozone, the iWave-R model produces no ozone. For anyone who is sensitive, has asthma, or wants a no-ozone purifier in the home, iWave is the answer.

Works with any forced-air system. iWave mounts in the supply or return duct of any HVAC system, gas furnace, electric furnace, heat pump, or air handler. We also carry models that can be installed in ductless mini split systems where REME HALO does not fit.

How iWave installs

Most iWave installs are a half day, similar to REME HALO.

  1. Choose the location. iWave can mount in the supply or the return. We pick the spot that gives the best airflow coverage for your specific duct layout.
  2. Cut, mount, seal. Clean rectangular cut, secure mount with screws, perimeter sealed against air leaks.
  3. Wire it. iWave needs 24V power from your furnace transformer or air handler. We wire it to run whenever your blower runs.
  4. Test and verify. We make sure the ion generator is operating, the airflow is correct, and the self-cleaning cycle is set.
  5. Walkthrough. We show you the unit, explain the self-cleaning cycle, and tell you the indicator light meanings.

iWave models we install

  • iWave-R. Universal mounting bracket, fits any forced-air HVAC system. The most common residential install. Zero ozone, self-cleaning.
  • iWave-C. Mounts on cooling coils, primarily for commercial or larger residential systems where coil-mount placement is preferred.
  • iWave-M. Mini split designed, for ductless systems where we cannot use REME HALO or duct-mounted iWave.

We size and pick the model during the in-home consult based on your equipment and duct layout.

Maintenance

This is where iWave is genuinely different from REME HALO and UV lights.

  • No bulbs. Nothing to replace.
  • Self-cleaning cycle. Runs automatically. You do nothing.
  • Indicator light. Tells you the unit is working.
  • Service life. Three years of solid operation is the manufacturer expectation for residential use, with many units running longer.

Your annual HVAC maintenance visit with Wahl includes a check of the iWave indicator and a wipe-down of any visible debris. That is the entire owner maintenance picture.

iWave compared to REME HALO

Both are excellent, and we install both. Here is how we help customers choose.

If you want the most data-backed product with extensive third-party testing on viruses and pathogens, REME HALO. If you want zero maintenance, zero ozone, and the newest ion-cluster tech, iWave. We will recommend the one that fits your home and your priorities during the consult.

Pittsburgh Homeowners Ask

Frequently asked questions

Does iWave really not need bulb replacement?

Correct. The ion generator is self-cleaning and designed to last the full service life of the unit, which is rated for three years of typical residential use and often runs longer. No bulbs, no cells, no replacement parts during normal life.

Is iWave safer than UV-based purifiers?

Both are safe when installed correctly. iWave-R has the advantage of producing zero ozone, which makes it the right choice for asthmatics, anyone with chemical sensitivity, or anyone who has had a bad reaction to other air purification products in the past.

Can iWave handle a Pittsburgh basement smell?

Yes, in most cases. iWave reduces airborne mold spores and bacteria, and neutralizes odors. For severe basement humidity problems we also recommend a whole-home dehumidifier as a partner product. The two together are very effective.

Does iWave work in summer with the AC running?

Yes. iWave runs whenever your blower runs, which is whenever the system is heating or cooling. In summer with the AC on, iWave is treating the same air your cooling system is moving.

Will iWave help with pet allergies?

Most pet allergy issues are caused by dander (small particles of skin) and saliva proteins. iWave clusters those particles so they become large enough for your filter to catch, which makes your filter dramatically more effective. We typically recommend iWave plus an Aprilaire 4-inch or 5-inch media cleaner for pet households.

Can iWave be installed in my ductless mini split?

Yes, with the iWave-M model. This is one of the reasons iWave is a strong choice for homes with a mix of ducted and ductless HVAC, or homes that are fully ductless.

Does my warranty include iWave?

Calgon includes a manufacturer warranty on iWave. Wahl also provides a labor warranty on every install. We register the warranty with Calgon on your behalf at install.
